Betty Pistey passed peacefully last Wednesday, April 4, 2018, in the company of loved ones at the Merrimack County Nursing Home after a long battle with dementia and cancer. She is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Jon and daughter-in-law, Kim; daughter, Jennifer; brother, John; six nieces and three grandsons.

Betty Grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord High in 1959. She went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1963, and then taught French at Penacook High School. She rounded out her career working on customer service for "Ma Bell" and Lighting Place for many, many years.

Throughout her struggle with dementia, Betty loved and knew the the Red Sox, counting Big Papi and Dustin Pedroia as her recent favorites, and Jimmy Piersall as her all-time favorite. She also followed the Patriots and had a passion for Tom Brady until her final breath. Betty also enjoyed candlepin bowling, hot fudge, maple frosted donuts, anything chocolate-based, Boston's north-end restaurants and trips to Mike's Pastries. She also loved Rod Stewart, Neil Diamond and Bruce Springsteen. Her greatest disappointment was that UNH Hockey never won a national Championship.

We will miss how Betty would bring the family together for holidays, cook an amazing upside-down turkey, and then beat the whole family at Trivial Pursuit. Betty was exceedingly smart and kind, and she routinely put the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. She excelled at beating everyone at word games, and she held on to her dry wit and humor to the last. Betty loved her family and friends and would often reminisce about good times with family and friends from Concord High and UNH. We all hope she's now enjoying some time catching-up with her beloved family, friends and pets who have passed before her.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St. Concord.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Waters Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at a later date.

Because Betty loved animals more than plants, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord.
