Elva "El" Shute Glaser passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Pleasant View Center in Concord, after a period of failing health.

She was born the daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (Mcutchen) Shute, and was the widow of Frederick Glaser, a former diplomat.

Mrs. Glaser was a graduate of Lancaster Academy and Concord College. Her career covered many dimensions. As a civilian, she was given special orders by the U.S. Navy to be a court reporter on Naval Courts and Boards, working out of San Pedro, Calif., for Naval Air VRF-3. Later, she worked in the Bond Department of the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. While there, she was asked by Sen. Styles Bridges to join his staff. She worked in his Concord and Washington offices for several years.

After her marriage to Frederick Glaser, a foreign service officer, the couple was stationed in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany, and in London. While in Germany, El began her volunteer work with the American Red Cross. She worked at the Army's 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt and at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md., in the psychiatric ward for four years; and at the U.S. Airforce Hospital in Ruislip England for three years. She continued her work with the Red Cross after returning to Concord.

After her husband died in 1972, she moved to Virginia where she worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. When she returned to New Hampshire, she worked as a recorder for the New Hampshire State Senate.

Mrs. Glaser was a volunteer for the Concord Hospital, St. Paul's Church and the Capital Center for the Arts. She was a life member of the Concord Hospital Associates and a Friend of the Friends.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Muriel Copson; and a brother, Kenneth Shute.

She is survived by her son, William Glaser; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will not be held.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 16, at 2:30 p.m. at the Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross N.H. Chapter, 2 Maitland St., Concord, N.H.; or to the Office of Philanthropy, Concord Hospital Trust, 250 Pleasant St., Concord, N.H. 03301.
