Janine Marie Averka of Concord passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2012, with her devoted love, Jerry Metzger, by her side.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 12, 1962, in Boston to Francis and MaryAnn Averka, she grew up in Deerfield and went on to graduate from Plymouth State College with a degree in psychology.
Being an adventurous free spirit, she joined the Merchant Marines and became a culinary chef. During her world travels, she met the love of her life, Jerry, and spent many happy years "putzing around the house" in Oregon with her cats, Spaz and Merlin.
Feisty by nature, Janine approached life as a champion for the underdog and a crusader for right, whether she was playing mother hen to those she loved, confronting a retail evildoer, or chasing raccoons with a 9 iron, she was a fierce protector.
She enjoyed collecting antiques, working in her flower garden, preparing wonderful meals, reading mystery books and playing card games, but, most of all, she loved talking with her family and writing down adventures for her book.
Janine had a boundless generosity, an unmatched sense of humor, and a contagious laugh and smile. She brightened the lives she touched and she will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Jan. 4 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, Concord. Interment will follow at Old Center Cemetery in Deerfield.
The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
