CONCORD – Joyce Ellen (Nelson) Ahern, 84, passed away after a long period of declining health, on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at
Presidential Oaks in Concord, with her daughters by her side.
She was born July 1, 1933. She grew up in Penacook and graduated from Penacook High School in 1951. Joyce married Robert E. Ahern in 1952 and made their home in Concord, where they raised their three children. She worked for the state of New Hampshire for over 30 years. She was a longtime parishioner of Christ the King, formerly St. John the Evangelist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, to whom she was married for 63 years; her mother, Mabel Marshall Nelson; a sister, Catherine Kalloch; a brother, Richard David Nelson and a grandson, Kenneth Russell.
Joyce leaves behind three children; a son, Stephen Ahern and his wife, Joan of Whitinsville, Mass., and two daughters, Maureen Jenkins and her partner Perry Bennett of Bow and Kathleen White and her husband, Michael of Berwick, Maine; a granddaughter, Kellie Peterson and her husband, Corey of Clinton, Mass.; two sisters; Mae Merchant of Springfield, Mass., and Evelyn Nelson of Barnstead, N.H., along with several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 11 a.m., immediately followed by a memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Blossom Hill Cemetery.
