Louise Schade Obituary

Louise Wilhelmine Schade (Grass), a resident of Havenwood / Heritage Heights, Concord, died peacefully Thursday, November 1, 2012.

Born in the Rhineland of Germany in 1913, she came to the United States with her family in 1926, settling in New York City. In 1933, she married Gerhard R. Schade, also a native of Germany, and they moved to Concord when he joined the faculty of St. Paul's School in 1936.

The family of four children lived in the Millville district of Concord, where she was a devoted mother and attentive homemaker. Later, Louise became the staff assistant to the Advanced Studies Program, St. Paul's School, until her retirement in 1973. A summer home in Hopkinton anchored the family in that community and eventually became a place of retirement during the summers, with winters in Gulfport, Fla. In 1987, Gerhard and Louise moved to River Grant in Contoocook until his death in 1999 following 66 years together. Louise became a member of the Havenwood community in 2004.

Louise is remembered by her family and many friends as a cheerful, graceful, common-sense and loving person, whose sensibility was founded on her quiet faith and impeccable sense of decency. She was a member of St. Andrew's Church, Hopkinton. An avid reader of literary classics, a knitter and sewer, a beloved "Oma," Louise was also a well informed traveler to Germany and elsewhere in Europe.

She will be remembered fondly by her children, Gerhard Schade, Jr. of Glastonbury, Conn., Inge Eddy of Hopkinton, Richard Schade of Cincinnati, Lucy Jackson of Stephentown, N.Y.; and by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8, at 2 p.m. at Havenwood.

The funeral is at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, gifts to St. Andrews Church in Hopkinton or to the Advanced Studies Program, St. Paul's School, are appreciated.

Tuppi, Inge, Tippi and Lucy

How sad it was to learn of Louisa's passing. I will remember with great fondness our many days and years of Milville - hiking, the cow pastures, picnics, the hunting, violins, and recorders, Stollen !! and all those wonderful things that went with growing up. The Schade family was and always will be special - and grounded by such a wonderful mother. She will be missed.
