M. Elizabeth "Betty" Williamson (1925 - 2018)

The Guest Book is expired.

NEW LONDON – M. Elizabeth "Betty" Williamson, of Elkins, passed peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2018.

Mrs. Williamson was born in New Brunswick, N.J. on Dec. 5, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Marian (Rogers) Haines, and was the devoted wife for 57 years of  her late husband, John W. Williamson, who died in 2007.

She graduated from George School, Bucks County, Pa., and earned her B.S. and R.N. from Skidmore College in 1947.  Mrs. Williamson was in public health nursing in the Newton and Boston area.  She and her family lived in Wellesley, Mass. for 45 years where they were members of the Unitarian Universalist Church. They all vacationed in New London starting in 1960, Betty and John moving there permanently in 1995.

Betty was a member of the Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and dedicated "weed watcher" for the Pleasant Lake Protective Association.  She was a founding member of the Wellesley Garden Club, a member of the New London Garden Club, the New London Historical Society, Elkins Ladies Benevolent Society, and the Kearsarge Area Council on Aging where she generously volunteered her time and energy.

Betty was a tremendous cook who loved swimming, tennis, gardening, crafts of all kinds, as well as loons, other birds, and wildflowers; she carried binoculars with her at all times, even after retiring to Woodcrest. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother/stepmother of six sons. Her love and loyalty to her family were the center of her life. Betty was very talented in many crafts, which now enrich the lives of many friends and family, and which she frequently contributed to support local charities.

Surviving members of her family include her five sons (and their spouses), Bruce (Wendy) of Lebanon, (Karen of Etna), Craig (Gail) of Oxford, Ohio, Glen (Cynthia) of Dover, Mass., Scott (Carrie) and Todd (Susan) all of Wellesley, Mass.; stepson, John (Bette) of Newton, Mass.; 12 grandchildren (some with spouses), Kate (Eric), Emily, Elyse (Scott), Evan (Alejandra), Trevor, Bryce, Landon, Laura, Reid, Justin, John and Sarah; six great-grandchildren, Max, James, Ben, Stella, José and Juan; sister, Martha Haines of Medford, N.J.; niece, Cindy Ginnett Haines; nephew, Fred Haines; and cousin Ruth Yarrow.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 461 Main Street in New London.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Fellowship kuufnh.org/connection/donate.
