Ruth Isabelle Obituary

Ruth Mary (Hickey) Isabelle, 88, passed away on Nov. 23, 2011. She was a longtime resident of Concord. She died after a short period of declining health.

Mrs. Isabelle was born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., on April 20, 1923, to Ruth Emily (Colby) and William P. Hickey. She moved to Concord in 1940 and graduated from Concord High School in 1941.

She was the wife of Hubert W. J. Isabelle. They had been married 49 years at the time of his death in 1992. Before her retirement from N.H. Distributors in 1984, she had been employed by J. C. Penney and Sears Co., and prior to that had worked at the N.H. State Liquor Commission as a supervisor for over twenty years.

Mrs. Isabelle is survived by her son William J. Isabelle and his spouse, Sue; granddaughter Suzanne M. Isabelle and her spouse, Lisa, with whom she lived; granddaughters Joellen and Kristen Isabelle – all of Concord; great grandchildren, Katherine Isabelle, Alexander and Samantha Arsenault; her brother Hamilton C. Hickey of Owego, N.Y.; and Charlene H. Mayo of Concord.

Mrs. Isabelle was predeceased by her grandson Peter M. Isabelle, who died in 1988; her brother William C. Hickey in 2006; and her sister-in-law Aileen M. (Isabelle) Hickey in 1990.

Many friends of her grand and great-grandchildren who called her "Gram" and loved her home-cooked dinners will also miss her dearly.

Donations in her name may be made to the Friendly Kitchen and the N.H. Association for the Blind.

I remember going to your grandmother's house when we were still at St. John's. That woman had the patience of a saint and in particular that we would have Howard Johnson's Mac&Cheese. Friendship

Ruth Isabelle was my great grandmother. I lived with her for twenty years. She was and is the BEST woman I have ever known, and cooked the BEST food I've ever tasted and no one could brush my hair like she did.She taught me almost everything I know, and gave me the best advice, and also the best nights watching Nancy Grace and Jane Velez Mitchel. I will miss her and think about her everyday, forever. I love you grammy, you will ALWAYS be in my heart and thoughts She is also survied by myself, and my two cusions Alex and Samantha Who loved her dearly.
Love you Gram, Katherine Marie
