BRADFORD - Roderick K. Jones, 68, son of the late Robert T. Jones of New York City and Newbury, and the late Natalie Jones, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at The Seasons of Summercrest, Newport.
The Guest Book is expired.
Rod was raised in Westfield, N.J., attended private boarding schools and graduated from Westfield Senior High School in 1964. He received his BA in History from College of Emporia in 1968 and continued his graduate studies at Glassboro State College.
Rod began his lifelong passion of owning his own bookstore, Kalonbooks in Bradford, in the 1970's where he amassed a fine collection of rare and out of print books. He was a member of the New England Antiquarian Book Society and former treasurer. He was a devoted Trustee of Brown Memorial Library in Bradford for 16 years.
He is survived by his sister, Meg Ames of New London; and two nephews, Peter Ames of Litchfield and Bryan Ames of Cambridge, Mass.
Rod started each day with long walks around Bradford and surrounding towns, preparing himself to go out and find that rare book to add to his collection. He will be remembered as a true gentleman, a generous friend, and a bibliophile at heart.
Calling Hours and Reception for friends and family will be Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London.
Grateful loving support was given to Rod and his family from the staff at The Seasons, and Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice.
