BOSCAWEN - Arthur E. Garey, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home.

Born Nov. 9, 1927, in Boston, Arthur grew up in Abington, Mass., and was the son Arthur Garey and Patia (Potter) Garey.
Arthur graduated from Abington High School and attended Norwich University in Vermont before enlisting in the U.S. Army and attending officers training school. Arthur was sent to Germany during World War II and upon return married his wife Ruth (Hanchett) Garey of Dunstable, Mass., on Oct. 21, 1950. Arthur and his wife settled in Boscawen and both became members of the United Church of Penacook where for a time Arthur served as a deacon and trustee.
Arthur owned and operated the Kimball studio in Concord for nearly 30 years, which at the time was the oldest photography studio in the U.S. operating under the same name. Arthur belonged to the professional photographers' association of New Hampshire and won numerous prestigious awards during his career in photography. Arthur sold Kimball studio and worked in real estate for a number of years before his retirement in 2000. After retirement, Arthur volunteered for several years at the bureau of New Hampshire tourism in Concord.
Arthur was especially fond of boating and vacationing with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee. He enjoyed fresh and saltwater scuba diving, downhill skiing, and was a member of the 70+ ski club. Arthur loved classical music, animals and was an avid reader with a keen interest in quantum mechanics and astrophysics.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Garey of Boscawen; two sons, Kenneth Garey of Concord and Timothy Garey of Concord; one daughter, Robin Crowley of Hill; and one granddaughter, Megan Garey of Concord.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Penacook, 21 Merrimack St. Penacook. Internment will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery.
The Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home in Penacook is in charge of arrangements.
The family expresses thanks to the Merrimack County Nursing Home, the Hospice House of Concord and to the Visiting Nurse Association.
