LOUDON – Joan Rita (Brown) Butman, 82, of Pine Ridge Road in Loudon, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at Concord Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Butman was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Bristol, the daughter of the late Harold E. and Pearl M. (Seward) Brown. She grew up in Bristol, graduating from Bristol High School in 1950. Mrs. Butman graduated from Keene State Teachers College in 1952, receiving a degree in English.
She and her husband, Loren P. Butman Sr., lived in Gilford and Mulberry, Fla., before moving to Loudon in 1981. Mrs. Butman was a member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church.
Members of her family include two sons, Loren P. Butman Jr, and his wife, Karlee Kenison, of Concord, and Michael H. Butman; a daughter, Kathi G. Handley and her husband, Glenn, of Bradley, Fla.; a brother, Chandler Brown and his wife, Cora, of Bristol; numerous grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Butman was predeceased by her husband, Loren P. Butman Sr., her son Chandler L. Butman, and two sisters.
There are no calling hours. Private family services to be arranged at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Alexandria United Methodist Church, 12 Washburn Road, Alexandria 03222; or to Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord–Merrimack County, 94 Silk Farm Road, Concord 03301, in memory of Mrs. Butman.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bennett Funeral Home in Concord.
