WARNER – Richard J. Donovan, age 69, of Melvin Mills, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Concord Hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1944, in Concord, the son of the late Patrick and Christine (Hogan) Donovan.

A graduate of St. John High School and St. Anselm College, Dick earned a Master's Degree in Counseling and CAGS at University of New Hampshire as well as a Doctorate from Vanderbilt University.
After a successful counseling career, he transitioned into the field of institutional advancement. His employers included Ketchum Inc., Dartmouth Medical School, Harvard Medical School, the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Emmanuel College, Anatolia College and Green Mountain College. Soon after retiring he joined the Registry for College and University Presidents as well as Collegiate Enterprise Solutions where he became Practice Leader for Institutional Advancement Consulting Service.
An avid mountain climber, he achieved his goal of hiking New Hampshire's 4,000-foot mountains with his buddies Stan, Roger and Parker. He wore his AMC 4,000-footer badge proudly on his knapsack.
Travel was another passion which he shared with his wife Linda. Europe and the United Kingdom were visited many times. His knowledge of history and its quirks created adventurous and humorous trips.
Dick will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, energy and generosity.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, beloved cat Wendell, brother; Thomas J. Donovan and his wife Stephanie, niece; Kate nephew; Patrick, cousins; Joan, Jane, and Sister Anne.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord.
Funeral services will follow in the Chapel of the Waters Funeral Home at 1 p.m.
Burial will be held privately.
