PENACOOK – Pauline J. Ordway, 85, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Concord Regional VNA Hospice House, Concord, after a period of declining health.

She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Loudon, daughter of the late Arthur H. and Addie L. (LaBonte) Smith.

Pauline grew up in Loudon and was a graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1946. She married Frederick W. Ordway on June 21, 1947, and became the loving mother of five children. Family meant everything to Pauline and they all enjoyed a wonderful dinner together every Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Her children fondly recalled what a wonderful cook and hostess their mother was, that she was always at home for them when they returned home from school each day, and that she had a knack for style ~ in both hair and clothing.

Pauline worked for many years as a home health aide which enabled her elderly clients to remain in their homes.

Pauline and Fred enjoyed many wonderful years with their numerous friends dancing Saturday nights at the Rockingham Ballroom in Newmarket. She and Fred vacationed every year to Pompano Beach, Fla., and they would also attend Fred's naval reunions every five years which took them to many parts of country.

Being a proud member of the Exeter Women's Club, Pauline enjoyed volunteering throughout the community with a special fondness to knitting hats and sweaters for newborns at Exeter Hospital. Her grandchildren were all proud recipients of them as well. She was also a former parishioner at the Christ Episcopal Church of Exeter.

They have been residents in the Concord area for five years, and were formerly of Exeter, Newmarket and Stratham.

Pauline was predeceased by two sons, John Ordway and Brian Ordway.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick Ordway; daughter, Melissa Carroll; two sons, Scott Ordway and Frederick Ordway; five grandsons, Robert Carroll, John Carroll, Matthew Carroll, Harrison Ordway and Keith Ordway; and two granddaughters, Danielle Carroll and Amelia Ordway.

Private services will be held for the family, Pauline's sincere request.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Stratham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pauline's memory to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association, The Slusser Center, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301.
