HUDSON – Stephen J. Carey, 55, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Carey was born Jan. 11, 1959, in Boston, where he lived for many years, the son of Lorraine E. (Reiser) O'Brien. He was a resident of Hudson for the past several years.
Mr. Carey was employed at the VA Medical Center in Manchester.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy.
He loved to travel and enjoyed helping others. Mr. Carey was a longtime friend of Bill W. He was a Sunday school teacher and was active with his church. Most of all, Mr. Carey loved spending time with his family.
Members of his family include his mother, Lorraine E. (Reiser) O'Brien, of Canterbury; a brother, Thomas Carey of Weymouth, Mass.; three sisters, Nancy A. Levesque of Belmont; Barbara J. Carey of Franklin, and Julie A. O'Brien of Canterbury; nieces and nephews, Tommy Carey, Kristen Carey, Kimberly Carey, Kaitlin Levesque, Joseph Levesque, Autumn Avery and Willow Avery. In addition, he leaves a longtime family friend, Pam Duncan. Mr. Carey was predeceased by his fiancee, Mary Manning. He was also predeceased by his father, Paul X. O'Brien; by his loving grandmother, Gladys Reiser; and by his nephew, Gavin Riley Taylor.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., in Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish at St. John The Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St., in Concord. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a food pantry or homeless shelter of one's choice, in memory of Mr. Carey.
