MANCHESTER, Conn. – Gary A. Matulaitis, 64, of Manchester, Conn., beloved husband of Barbara A. (Nickerson) Matulaitis, died peacefully after a long battle with brain cancer, at St. Francis Hospital, with his family at his side, listening to ESPN.

Gary was born November 12, 1949, in Bow, son of the late Walter and Ivy (Palmer) Matulaitis.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Gary was a truck driver with Stephens Pipe and Steel of Manchester.
He was an avid golfer, Red Sox and Patriots fan. In 2013 he was fortunate to attend Opening Day and a World Series Game at Fenway Park.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jaime Matulaitis of Vernon, Conn. and Jessica Matulaitis of Manchester, Conn.; son, Steven Rourke; his brother, Edward Matulaitis of Bow; his sister, Nancy Pierce of Henderson, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was predeceased by his son, Adam L. Matulaitis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester.
Burial will be held Thursday, June 26, at 11 a.m. in St. Bridgets Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Cancer Center, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105. Please earmark the donation for brain cancer research in memory of Gary.
