PEMBROKE – Roland H. Young Jr. went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 30, 2014, at the age of 81.

Roland was born in Concord on August 18, 1932, the son of Roland Young Sr. and Lena (Fowler) Young. He graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1950 and went on to the Progressive School of Photography, New Haven, Conn. Roland served in the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1955. He was stationed in Alaska, serving as a photographer, and then in Alcoa, Tenn., where he met his future wife. He retired from Concord Group Insurance after 32 years.
Roland was often referred to as "the Judge" as he served on the bench in the Pembroke Municipal Court from 1960 to 1972, the youngest to be appointed at the age of 28.
Roland was currently a member of Grace Capital Church, where he had served as a greeter and usher. He was the state president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a life-time member of Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International, as well as a member of the Gideon's International ministry.
Roland served the community as commissioner of the Suncook Little League and Recreation Department. He umpired many baseball and softball games, and refereed basketball games of all levels throughout the state over the course of 30 years. Roland spent 25 years volunteering at the New Hampshire state prison, and was a member of the Governor's Council Advisory Board. He was also supervisor of the voters' checklist for the town of Pembroke.
Roland had a wonderful heart, a great sense of humor, and will be dearly missed.
Roland is survived by his wife, Fleda of 59 years; and his sister, Jo Ann Richards and her husband, David, of Pembroke. Roland is lovingly remembered by his three children, Carla Fowler and her husband, Scott, of Pembroke, Alicia DiTommaso and her husband, Lewis, of Lee and Roland H. Young III and his wife, Suzanne, of Pembroke. He loved and enjoyed all of his grandchildren, Joey, Leah, Hannah, Matthew and Timothy; as well as all of his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 3, at Grace Capital Church, 542 Pembroke Street, Pembroke. Calling hours will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the service will follow at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in the Buck Street Cemetery on Monday, July 7th at 2 p.m.
