WILMOT – Elmer G. DeLaat, 86, of Elkins Road, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the New London Hospital.

He was born in Midland Park, N.J. on December 30, 1927, the son of Gilbert and Wilhelmina (Osterholt) DeLaat. He lived in the Midland Park area for many years before moving to Wilmot in 1972.
While in New Jersey, Elmer had been a letter carrier. After moving to New Hampshire he was a police officer for Wilmot, New London and Sunapee and he and his late wife operated a cleaning service. When his wife died in 1998 he retired from the cleaning business.
Elmer served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1946-1949. A dedicated volunteer and devoted to Marge, he supported her civic activities.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie L. (Valois) DeLaat, in 1998.
Members of his family surviving include three children, Donna Lee and her husband, Roger DeCantillon of Camino, Calif., Gilbert V. and his wife, Joanne DeLaat of Glen Rock, N.J. and Sandra Lynn DeLaat of Springfield; and three grandchildren, Krystle, Justine and Cody.
Friends may call Thursday, August 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London.
A service will be held Friday, August 29, at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Elkins Cemetery, Elkins.
