PENACOOK - Stephen William Goodwin, died Friday, May 4, 2012.

Steve graduated from Penacook High School in 1961 and joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter serving in the Pacific, specifically Hawaii and Alaska. He served honorably for four years and was actively involved in a rescue and recovery mission off the coast of Kodiak Island during the aftermath of the 1964 Alaska earthquake. He returned to New Hampshire after discharge from the U.S. Navy. From 1965 to 1975 he held jobs in New Hampshire, Michigan, and Colorado as a heavy equipment mechanic, a truck driver, and a crane operator, the latter of which led him to return to Alaska. Steve worked for the Tesoro refinery for ten of his 27 years in Alaska. He returned to New Hampshire in 2002 following the death of his father, Frank Goodwin.

Steve remained in Penacook where he was preceded in death by his mother, Signe Olson Goodwin, in August, 2010. Also preceded in death by one daughter, Steve is survived by his brothers Peter C. Goodwin and Robert J. Goodwin, both of Florida; two daughters and one son; his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and cousins.

Steve was an avid reader, played bluegrass banjo and guitar, and enjoyed driving his Model A Ford. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club of America, White Mountain Region Chapter.

Interment will be held Friday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m., at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen.
