Irene Martel, 97, of Concord passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Irene touched many lives and leaves behind cherished memories to all who have been blessed to have known her. She is remembered as a sweet woman with a warm smile and great sense of humor. She had a passion for caring for animals whether it be feeding squirrels on her porch or spoiling her beloved cat Bootsey.
She was born in Concord on Aug. 10, the daughter of Charles and Lydia Beck. She was the sister of Marjorie Beck Walker, Charles Beck, Shirley Beck and Frank Beck. She married and was predeceased by the love of her life, Charles Martel, whom she is now reunited with after 48 years. She was also predeceased by three grandchildren.
Irene is survived by four children: Charles Martel Jr. and his wife, Bettie, of Allenstown; Robert Martel and his wife, Bernie, of Concord; Marjorie Asby of Concord; Norman Martel of Plymouth; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St. in Concord. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. in the Chapel at the Waters Funeral Home. After the service, burial will be at the Soucook Cemetery in Concord.
