PEMBROKE - Judith (Judy) Chalker French of Pembroke, passed Monday, December 3, 2012 at Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association, Chestnut Hill, Mass., surrounded by her beloved family.

Judy, along with her twin sister Kelsey, was born in Davenport, Iowa to Donald K. and Amy (Parker) Chalker. She graduated from Hudson High School in Hudson, Ohio and Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. She received her MED from Plymouth State in New Hampshire.

As a lover of birds and wildlife, one of Judy's favorite jobs was that of "chick mother" at the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wis. She also enjoyed leading night hikes at Glen Helen Outdoor Education Center in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She came to New Hampshire to teach a the former Horizon's Edge School in Canterbury. Subsequently she taught special education at the Spaulding Youth Center, Winnisquam High School and Concord High School. Most recently, Judy shared her passion for the natural world with her students at Rundlett Middle School, where she taught 6th grade math and science for the past 20 years.

As an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Concord, Judy held several positions, including Second Reader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Trustee.

Judy is survived by her husband of 27 years, John T. French; son Japhet C. French of Pembroke; stepdaughter Pastor Cheryl F. Meachen and her husband, Jim, of Brattleboro, Vt.; stepson Kevin T. French and his wife, Theresa, of Hopkinton; step granddaughter Christina Catino and her husband, Marc, of Concord; step grandson Joshua Meachen of Brattleboro, Vt.; half-brother Dwight E. Chalker of Honolulu; brother Donald F. Chalker and wife, Jamie, of Chatham, Mass.; sister Gail Rice-Runyon and her husband, Rick, of Newton, Mass.; sister Kelsey Chalker of Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in February in Concord.
