Born Phyllis (Zaida) Amazeen July 1, 1924 in Skowhegan, Maine she was the daughter of Alton and Alice Amazeen. She was raised in Skowhegan and graduated from Farmington State Teachers College with a degree in Home Economics. Throughout her life, she excelled in academics and music. It was at Farmington that she met the love of her life Wendall Towle and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
They moved to Penacook in 1953 where they raised five children and were active members of the community. Phyllis was a gifted musician and artist. She loved playing piano and could play by ear for sing-alongs with family or friends. She also loved playing for school musicals. She was the choir director at the United Church of Penacook for many years. Throughout her life she worked to perfect the art of Toll Painting, china painting and exquisitely designed decorative eggs. Her family enjoys the legacy she left behind in the many beautiful pieces she did for them throughout the years. She enjoyed watching her children in their extra- curricular activities and devoted her life to making a loving home.
Phyllis and her husband enjoyed retirement in Florida, golf and travel. Phyllis delighted in the fact that she could land their private plane if necessary. Her pride in accomplishing a hole in one was exceeded only by the pride her husband showed in that achievement.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Wendall, who died in 1999. She is survived by her five children, Prescott Towle of Epsom and his wife Beryl, Adria Cilley of Concord and her husband George, Betsy Crete of Boscawen and her husband, Pete, Jeffrey Towle of Henniker and his wife Marian, Alison McKnight of Dartmouth, Mass., and her husband Stephen. Phyllis and Wendall were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
We will always toast her at 5 o'clock but without her at the piano, the " sing- alongs" have been silenced.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wendall H. Towle Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Pat Carpenter, 242 Main Street, Farmington, Maine 04938 or electronically www.UMF.Maine.Edu/giving or to the
