She was born in May 1934, was raised in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University. She moved to Richmond, Va., in 1964, where she raised two daughters. Late in the 1970s she moved to New York City and started a small business as a buyer and consultant for Couture Clothing.
In the late 1990s she moved to Concord. She became very active in Republican politics and participated in the City Committee. She held numerous parties for several candidates. She was selected to represent N.H. at the National Republican Convention in Philadelphia in 2000 and New York in 2004. She worked for H&R Block for 12 years until she retired in 2012 due to illness.
Often you would see her in her yard pushing the lawn mower, raking leaves and spending hours cultivating her garden.
Barbara was an extremely affable and caring person, always pleasant with a kind word for everyone.
She especially loved Golden Retrievers, even raising a litter in a New York City Coop. She made yearly charitable donations to the local animal league. A donation in her name would please her very much.
She is survived by her two daughters, Katherine Barrett Baker (James Baker) and Susan E. Barrett; a grandson Chasen P. Barrett; and her longtime friend John S. Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the North Shore Animal League, 25 Davis Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice and Presidential Oaks for the excellent care she received at the end of her life.
There are no calling hours or services. Barbara will be buried in her home state of Ohio.
