BOSCAWEN - Lewis A. Bartlett, 87, of Boscawen, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, April 20, 2013, following a short battle with lung cancer.

Lewis was born in Concord, December 21, 1925, son of Arthur and Iyla (Hanson) Bartlett. He attended Penacook High School before joining the Marines at age 18. Lewis served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Astoria in the Pacific Theatre 1943-1945 and was involved in campaigns the of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Honshu, Leyte, Luzon and Hokkaido.

A long-time resident of Boscawen, Lewis worked as a Line Foreman for Concord Electric (then Unitil) for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was a 50 year member of the Boscawen Congregational Church serving on the board of deacons and trustees and singing in the choir from the age of 8. He was a 70 year member of the Daniel Webster Grange; he was fire chief of Salisbury Fire Department for 13 years and a Merrimack County Forest Fire Warden. Lewis was also a member of and served as president for the Daniel Webster Association Snow Beepers. Lewis was an avid snowmobiler and, at age 83, earned the oldest driver award of the Easter Seals Ride-In. He enjoyed fishing, fly fishing, hunting, gardening and bowling.

Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Edna T. (Taylor) Bartlett; daughters, Kathy Lovejoy and partner, John Boyer of San Diego, and Wendy Wallace and husband, Ken of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepson, Brian Ballam of Rochester; stepdaughter, Lorna Ballam of Boscawen; granddaughters, Alicia Jones and Dana Wallace of Colorado Springs, Colo.; step-granddaughters, Tracy Colburn of Newmarket and Mary Jo Boisvert of Bradford; great-grandchildren, Grace and Noah Boisvert; sisters, Marilyn Delew of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and Beverly Welcome of Concord; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews; and his precious kitty companion, Emmie.

Lewis was predeceased by brothers, Arthur Jr., Myron (Mike), Harland and Roland.

At his request, there will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m., at Boscawen Congregational Church, 12 High Street in Boscawen. Lewis' urn will be interred during a private ceremony at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery.
