Genevieve (Peggy) F. (Griffith) Hicks passed away with as much poise, grace and dignity as she lived her life of 91 years. She passed at home surrounded by her loving family Saturday, August 3, 2013... almost a year to the day of the passing of her beloved husband.
The Guest Book is expired.
Peggy was a longtime resident of the Concord area. She was born in Concord on Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Earl J. and Myrtle B. (Haley) Griffith. She spent most of her life in Penacook and Concord graduating from Penacook High School with the Class of 1941.
Shortly after Pearl Harbor, Peggy moved to Boston to work for Raytheon, a defense factory, in her support of our troops fighting in World War II.
While in Boston, she met and married her first husband, William J. Lane of the U.S. Navy. Seven months after they married, William died in a service related injury in Key West, Fla.
She later met and married the love of her life, Richard S. Hicks Sr. of Concord in August, 1945. Together they raised seven beautiful children and celebrated almost 67 wonderful years together. As a loving wife, she took great care of her husband during his many years of illnesses. Since his passing in July 2012, Peggy spent this past year with a broken heart and is now at peace with her beloved husband for eternal life.
Peggy worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield for many years and later for Concord National Bank/First N.H. Bank for ten years. Peggy retired in 1984. After her retirement, she worked 20 years part-time for Dr. James Mancini of Concord.
She loved playing golf and was a member of Beaver Meadow Golf Course for 20 years. She also enjoyed doing Crossword Puzzles and Saturday morning breakfast with her daughters. Her greatest pleasures were the endless family gatherings and attending her grandchildren's numerous sporting events and activities.
She was pre-deceased by her lifetime love, Richard; seven brothers, John, Connie, Reginald, Bernard, Paul, Robert and Raymond; along with a very special step-grandson, Anthony Tessitore.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Jr. and his wife Jeromette of Nantucket, Mass. and Deer-Isle Stonington, Maine and Jeff and his companion Melissa Rivard of Bow. Five daughters, Sarah Blake and her husband, Charles, of Concord, Roberta Libby and her husband, Theodore, of Vero Beach, Fla., Kathy Whitehead and her husband, Randall, of Concord, Margaret Salamy and her husband, Jay, of Bow and Jennifer Rand and her husband, Kevin, of Bow; and one sister, Gloria Alosa and her husband, Pasquale, of Concord. Peggy also left behind 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Peggy was a woman of few words and lived by the mindset "Never say more than is necessary". So it was known, when Peggy spoke, all listened. She was truly loved and admired by many because of her kind heart, strength, honesty and wit. Peggy was the core of her family and will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
We love you
