Gary L. Kerr, 67, formerly of Rumson, N.J., passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, after a heart attack.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was the son of Art and Elva Kerr, both deceased, of Rumson. Gary graduated from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School in 1963. He attended Pratt Institute in New York City and New England College in Henniker. He also did a tour in the U.S. Air Force before beginning a career with the New Hampshire Environmental Services, Water Resources Division, inspecting dams throughout the state. He took early retirement from the state to begin a second career in his life-long hobby, railroading, becoming a licensed locomotive engineer for the seasonal Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad out of Meredith, as well as working for the freight railroad, the New England Southern Railroad out of Concord. He was active with the NH Rail Revitalization Association serving as their webmaster and frequently published comments on railroad issues in the state.
An informal gathering to celebrate Gary's life will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Merrimack Valley Freight Station at 5 Park St., Northfield, with a brief military moment at that time.
