PENACOOK – Alice Marion Colby, 80, of Penacook, passed on to be with the Lord Monday, April 14, 2014, following a period of declining health.

Alice was born in Concord on March 13, 1934, to the late John D. and Clara E. (Henry) Johnson. Alice worked for many years at Rumford Press and H&R Block in Concord and managed an H&R Block office in Ormond Beach, Fla. She was founder of the Penacook "TOPS" chapter and in her earlier years she led a Brownie Troop. She was a member of the United Church of Penacook where she taught Sunday school and served on the finance committee. She was a member of the Penacook Women's Guild and very active with the soup kitchen for many years. She was a member of the Penacook Historical Society and the Penacook Village Association. She loved working in her church and in the Penacook community.

In her life, Alice enjoyed fishing, traveling and watching Red Sox games and auto racing with her husband. Her passions included genealogy and poetry where she wrote award winning poems.

Alice leaves her husband of 47 years, Lee H. Colby Sr.; two sons, Richard "Ricky" Tewskbury Jr. of Penacook and Thomas Colby of Manchester; five daughters, Candace Ziakas of Penacook, Dorothy Steenbeke of Webster, Donna Wheeler of Salisbury, Debra Russell of Vermont and Diane Main of Rochester; two brothers, Robert Johnson of Concord and Richard Johnson of Franklin; four grandchildren, Jon Steenbeke of Baotou, China, Candace Steenbeke of Webster, Christopher Cheney-Rolfe of Penacook and Michael Steenbeke of Rochester, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth "Ellie" Valk, Theodore "Teddy" Badjie and Camryn Steenbeke.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, April 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King St. in Boscawen.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery in Penacook.
