Darrell Parcher Obituary

Darrell G. Parcher
May 24, 1934-April 4, 2013
Resident of Concord
Born in Rainier, Oregon May 24, 1934 and passed from this life surrounded by love April 4, 2013. Darrell served in the Air Force as an air traffic controller, graduated from Oregon State University, and spent his working career in financial management. Darrell was a recreational sports referee/umpire for 27 years and a volunteer at both Contra Costa County Crisis Center and, most recently, at John Muir Hospital.
He was an avid reader and sports fan of the Niners, A's, and St. Mary's College basketball. He loved the mountains, camping (particularly the Oregon Coast) and fires, both camp and fireplace. Winter could begin only when two cords of wood were neatly stacked in the yard. He loved his garden and grew the best tomatoes ever!
Darrell is survived by his daughters Cheryl Meyer (Harvey), Karen Ensworth, Brooke Parcher-Kern and Christie Smith (Ken); 11 grandchildren; his wife of 22 years, Elaine and her children, Jack Barton (Barbara), Betsy Schrader (Patrick); 2 grandchildren. He will be deeply missed for his loving ways and warm hugs.
The family is grateful for the care and support of the John Muir medical community, Hospice of the East Bay, his caregivers Nate, Borris and Daniela, and loyal friends.
Gifts in his memory may be made to Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 13 at 1pm, Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, 1801 Lacassie Ave., Walnut Creek. Express condolences at www.oakparkhillschapel.com

I worked with Darrell for many years at Montgomery Ward's Credit Center in Walnut Creek and always found him to be a great person standing up for what was right and obeying God's guidance. He will certainly be missed. He was one of my best friends and a fellow Oregon Stater. We will always remember when they made the long drive to Oregon to visit us and visit the Oregon beaches. Thank you, you will be missed.
