Alden Badal Obituary

Dr. Alden W. Badal Oct. 21, 1929 - July 29, 2013 Resident of Danville. CA Dr. Alden W. Badal passed away peacefully with family by his side in the early morning on July 29th. He was 83 years old. Alden was born and raised in Turlock, CA. He graduated from Turlock High in 1947 and continued his education at Modesto Junior College. He then transferred to San Francisco State and earned his under-grad degree and continued his education at Stanford University where he earned a Doctorate in Psychology. Alden was an educator and began his career as a 6th grade teacher in Newman, CA. After 7 years, Alden joined Oakland Public Schools in 1959 and served in various administrative posts for 19 years. After his service in Oakland, Alden became the San Lorenzo Unified School District's Superintendent of Schools in 1978 and retired from that position after 14 years in 1992. Al's greatest accomplishment and joy was his family. He was married to his wife Elvira for 58 years. She was Al's one and only love and best friend. They raised their family together in Moraga from 1963 through 1978 and then moved to Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville where he lived for the past 35 years. He lost Elvira to cancer in 2008. Al and Elvira had 3 children; their first child, Darlene. Darlene and her husband, Barry, had two children; Mark and Amy. Darlene was lost to breast cancer in the fall of 2007. Their second child, Terry, owned a local landscape company and recently married Erika Holst. Terry was lost to bone cancer this past October. Their third child, Karen, is surviving Alden and the rest of the family. Karen lives in Southern California with her husband Rick and their two children; Ryan and Avery. Al was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church in Danville and was involved in several men's bible studies as well as BSF. He loved spending time with his family, his grandkids, traveling, playing golf and bridge. Al was man of true character. He was loving, generous and had an amazing sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by all. We have comfort in knowing he has been reunited with Elvira, Darlene and Terry and the rest of his family in God's great Kingdom. There will be two services to honor Alden's life. Saturday 8/3 at 1:00, a graveside service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park. Sunday 8/18 at 2:00 a memorial service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church in Danville, CA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the cancer foundation of choice.

Karen and family - please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. My family has so many great memories of times spent with the Badals. My Dad spoke of your father often, he thought he was a very special man. You are in our prayers.

Al was my boss for many years in San Lorenzo. I was a principal at two of his schools. He let me play golf with him once only - I was terrible. He joined our fantasy football league and stuck with us for a long time, up until his passing. He had a great sense of humor, even though he lost lots of money. I am very sad he has left us, and I will miss him very much.

My heart is aching today at the news of Dr.Badal's passing. Karen and I have known each other for 50 years. Her family is so much a part of the fabric of my childhood.

I have so many wonderful memories...playing in the tree fort that her dad built up in the big oak tree down by the creek ... tollhouse cookies her Mom made for us on summer days...drinking Coca-Cola out of the little bottles ...catching frogs and pollywogs and keeping them in her side yard in various stages of metamorphosis. We had many sleepovers at the Badal's, and her family was always so welcoming and tuned into us.

I feel so sad that they have all passed. However, I know that they are all smiling down from Heaven.

Karen, I love you and cherish what our childhood together gave us. I am deeply sorry for your loss and losses. God Bless You.

Well Karen, I know there is not much I can say to take away the sting of your loss. My husband and I sat either next to or behind your dad almost every Sunday at CPC for years. He was one of the kindest, most gentle men I've ever known. I know that he loved you with his whole heart and was very proud of you. I know that he missed your Mother beyond measure and that being home with the Lord means being home with his wonderful Elvira and your siblings. May you find strength in your faith, comfort in God's love, and peace in knowing people are praying for you.

Dear Karen,

I was so sorry to read about the passing of your dear dad. I worked with your mom for many years at the MDRC and had the pleasure of knowing your dad, and siblings. They were all such a kind and loving family. I will be making a donation to the Leukemia Foundation in his memory. My father passed away from Leukemia two years ago. Their memories will always be with us. Sending you my loving thoughts.

Karen, I worked with your Mom at Mt. Diablo Rehab and met your father at the same time. I thought so much of him and I would let him know when my figs were ripe so I could share them. He always told me they were the best. I am so very sorry for all of us to have lost him. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

I was moved by the remembrances of Ms. Coelho, the former sixth grader taught by Dr. Badal in the small town of Newman, CA. He was proud of his upbring in the valley. Everytime I pass Newman on I-5 to LA, I would recall Newan was where Dr. Badal's had his first teaching job.I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Badal during the time I served on the San Lorenzo School Board from 1983 to 1996. I appreciated his kindness and we probably connected because I attended the Oakland Public Schools and shared mutual memories of principals and administrators I had when he was there. I admired his strength in recent years despite the many losses of close family members he endured and reported in his annual year end holiday greetings.

Rest in Peace.

Mr Badal was my wonderful 6th grade teacher in Newman and Mrs Badal attempted to teach us how to sing. I have never forgotten that special couple and often over the years have wondered about them. I was so sorry to read of your family losing so many members to cancer. Mr & Mrs Badal were the epitome of love and respect for each other as a couple. We did not have the privilege of knowing their family as they moved from the area. May God of comfort and understanding bless you at this sad time in your life. Please know that they made a great impact on one little girl oh so long ago.
God Bless.
With Sympathy,
