Johnson, Ronald Richard - Pleasanton
Ronald Richard Johnson Aug. 16, 1933 - Jan. 31, 2016 Resident of Pleasanton Ronald Richard Johnson, 82 of Pleasanton, August 16th 1933 – January 31st 2016. A Pleasanton resident for over 40 years Ron passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday night. He was the oldest child of Lyle and Lela Johnson born in Regina Saskatchewan, Canada. He grew up in Evergreen Colorado. Shortly after graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a Korean wartime veteran who took great pride in his military service. In the fall of 1955 he met and fell in love with Dolores Rubino. They eloped three months later on New Year's Eve. He is survived by three sons and their wives; Chris and (Lisa) Johnson, Wildwood MO, Craig and (Christine) Johnson, Pleasanton CA, Dan and (Ranata) Johnson, Kennewick WA, seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter due in April and two sisters; Marlene Ainsworth, Highlands Ranch CO, and Margie Johnson, Ocean Beach CA. Ron was an active member of the community and parish, involved with the Boy Scouts, the Knights of Columbus and the Pleasanton Rotary. At St. Augustine's Catholic Church he was a member of the social committee and alongside his wife a Eucharistic Minister. He volunteered regularly at the local VA facility. Ron spent his entire professional life working in retail, mostly with Safeway where he spent many years as a store manager. Later he was the owner and sole proprietor of Amador Liquors in Pleasanton. He concluded his career as a store manager for Liquor Barn. Since his retirement Ron enjoyed many activities including travel, boating, four wheeling and most importantly spending time with his family and friends. Life threw Ron many curve balls two more difficult than the rest. The first came in March of 1999 when after 43 years of marriage he lost the love of his life to cancer. The second was in June of 2012 when a stroke left him primarily bedridden. He handled these life altering events with dignity and grace. The family is planning a private graveside service and an open celebration of life in late February. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to Hope Hospice or the Veterans Administration are welcome. View the online memorial for Ronald Richard  Johnson
