Martin, Howard J. - Contra Costa  
Howard J. Martin Jr. Mar. 30, 1924 - Mar.19, 2015 Resident of Lafayette Howard Joseph Martin, Jr., a longtime resident of Lafayette, passed away peacefully at home on March 19th. Howard was born March 30, 1924, in Oakland, California. He attended Fremont High School and was an Eagle Scout. He entered UC Berkeley in 1942, where he played on the Freshman basketball team and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. While at Cal, he enlisted in the Navy and attended Navy Preflight at Saint Mary's College in 1943. After Navy Preflight, he returned to Cal where he met his bride-to-be, Barbara Ann Atchison. They were married on Big Game Day in 1948. Howard received his BS in Engineering in 1949. Their first son was born in 1950 and a year later, Howard was called to active duty for the Korean War. He served as a fighter pilot on the USS Bon Homme Richard with his tour of duty lasting over two years. When he returned home to his wife and young son, he began his professional career as a civil engineer with the City of Oakland, followed by Wilson Company where he met his future partner, Leo H. Schell. In 1957, he founded Schell and Martin, Inc. Civil Engineering, while continuing his duties as a Commander with the Naval Reserve. Howard and Barbara went on to have ten children: Howard, Theresa, Virginia, Thomas, Stephen, Claire, James, Robert, Daniel and Jeanne. Howard was preceded in death by his dear sister, Jean Catherine Ware, of Portland, Oregon. He was active in his church, Saint Mary's in Walnut Creek; loved to play golf, fly fish, dive for abalone, dig for clams and raise vegetables. He supported local youth athletic teams as well as his grandchildren in their sporting, drama and musical activities. He was an avid A's fan and Cal Bears' fan and did his best to be a Raiders' fan. He is survived by his wife, his ten children, 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, (925) 932-0900, may be contacted for information regarding the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Saint Mary Church of the Immaculate Conception, Walnut Creek.

Mazur, John A. - Concord  
John A. Mazur Aug. 20, 1944 - March 25, 2015 Concord John passed away peacefully at Kaiser Hospital of Walnut Creek surrounded by his loving family. A special thank you to all of the wonderful doctors and nurses of Kaiser Hospital Walnut Creek ICU and Emergency Department. He was and will be remembered as a gentle caring man, an amazing grandfather(Bonka), father and loving husband. John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Cynthia Mazur, daughter Michelle (Steve) Bennett, son John Jr. (Kathy) Mazur, his beloved grandchildren Brittney, Steven, Karina and Riley; Sister Mary (Dan) Medina, brothers Jim (Sally) Mazur and Tom Mazur. Also survived by sister in laws Sue (Norm) Brusseau and Laura Keoho; nieces Lisa (Jay) Arnot, Kimberly (Tom) Temen and many nieces and nephews; his caring neighbor Nao Kautsch and a very special friend Mike (Martha) Charlsen. As per John's wishes a service will not be held.

Robert (Bob) Triana Miramontes June 16, 1949 - March 21, 2015 Resident of Las Vegas, NV Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Las Vegas, Nevada. He leaves behind a loving, devoted wife of 37 years, Eileen, his parents Roberto and Mary Miramontes, brothers Peter (Sheri), Louis (Kristi), and David (Eleonor), mother-in-law Mabel Brune, children Anthony (Chantel) Stockton and Michelle (Ramon) Ciprian; four grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation and Service will be held March 30, 2015 at 6 p.m.; Burial on March 31, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, CA.

Moran, Patricia - Pleasanton  
Patricia Jane Moran Mar. 15, 1932 - Mar. 19, 2015 Resident of Kensington Was born on March 15, 1932 in Flagstaff Arizona, passed away on March 19 at Kaiser Hospital in Richmond, Ca. The wife of Leslie E. Moran of 44 years and who is survived by 5 children. Marilyn Moran, Steven and wife Lorri Moran, Ronald Moran, (deceased), Greg and wife Feama Moran, and Lisa Moran and husband John Lesher. Along with her 12 grandchilderen, and 17 great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Weds., March 25th 11:00 am at Holy Angels, St. Joseph Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane in San Pablo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, floor 17, Chicago IL 60601.

Novinger, Lloyd - Lafayette  
Lloyd Novinger Feb.11, 1936 - Mar. 27, 2015 Resident of Concord Retired Concord Police Officer, Lloyd Gordon Novinger, went to see our heavenly father on March 27th, 2015. Lloyd was 79 years old. He was born in Big Spring, Texas on February 11, 1936. Lloyd is survived by his son, Mike Novinger (CJ), his daughter Lisa Sanchez (Octavio), 3 grandchildren, Andrew, Emilio and Dante, niece Petice Tambeaux (Bob, Cate, Chris), niece Letricia Rowe (Chris), niece Theresa Viray (Ernest, Lucas), brother Wayne Novinger (Jean), sister in law Jan Hammontree (Walt), dear friend and companion of 3 years Beverly Jangord as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Lloyd was also a dedicated husband to Beverly Novinger, who passed on November 28, 2009. They were married for 50 years. He served with the Concord Police Department from 1963 to 1991. He was a graduate with the class of 1955 from Mt. Diablo High School in Concord. He and his wife were both owners of Cycle Lloyds Motorcycle School for many years until retiring their business to their kids so they could spend more time traveling together on the road in their RV. In addition to traveling he was an avid fisherman and gun enthusiast. He will be deeply missed!

O'Brien, Ashley Ann - Danville  
Ashley Ann O'Brien Mar 8, 1998 - Mar 24, 2015 Resident of Alamo Ashley Ann O'Bren, our sweet angel, passed away March 24th. Ashley just celebrated her 17th birthday. She was a junior at Monte Vista High School. Ashley is survived by her loving parents Chris and Julie O'Brien and her loving sister Sydney. She also leaves her maternal grandparents, Chris and Myrna Fernandez of San Jose and paternal grandparents, Kevin and Alberta O'Brien of Menlo Park. Ashley brightened the lives of so many people during her brief stay on earth. She will be missed by her extended family, friends, firefighter and rugby communities. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 AM at St. Isidore Catholic Church 440 La Gonda Way, Danville on March 31, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations in Ashley's honor to a charity of your choosing.

Olson, Virginia W. - Concord  
Virginia W. Olson June 14,1929 - March 18,2015 Resident of Walnut Creek Virginia passed away peacefully on March 18, 2015 at the age of 85. She was born in Oklahoma City, the daughter of Fannie and Clarence Wolfe. She spent most of her formative years on the farm of Elisha and Ada Avery, her cherished grandparents, in Francis, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Darwin Olson in 2012. She is survived by her son Chuck Olson, his wife Suzanne, daughter Nicki Robertson, her husband Dewayne, her grandchildren, Shilo Olson, Nicole Chilton and Amanda Pearson, eight great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. While working at George Air Force base in southern California she met Darwin and they were married in 1956 after Darwin joined the California Highway Patrol, and moved to Richmond soon after. It was there that she began working for JCPenney's and when they moved to Martinez in 1966 she worked for them in the new Sun Valley mall. This is where she formed a lifelong friendship with the "Penney's Queens", a group that continued to meet for lunches, birthdays and holidays for many years. In her later years Virginia worked part time for American Greetings stocking greeting cards. She enjoyed the work and formed many dear friendships there also. She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to see Hawaii, England, Scotland, Holland, Germany and Canada. She and Darwin made many trips to Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas over the years. There were trips back to Texas and Oklahoma to see family also. The last several years Virginia faced many health issues and injuries but would fight her way back each time with fierce determination and without complaint. As a wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend Virginia was kind, outgoing and loving while always ready with a laugh or smile. She will be missed and remembered dearly by everyone whose life she touched. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 11:30 am at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord, CA.

Orona, Michael E. - Richmond  
Michael E. Orona March 3, 1929 - March 15, 2015 Richmond Surrounded by his family, Michael E. Orona, Sr. left to be with the Lord after a short but valiant struggle with liver cancer. Last month Michael was awarded the Golden Veteran Award by the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California, San Leandro Fruitvale Lodge 113. For 32 years Michael drove bus for A/C Transit. Initially, he worked from the Seminary Avenue division in Oakland, driving from East to downtown Oakland. In 1974 he transferred to the Richmond division, driving from Pinole-Hercules to Richmond and downtown Oakland. As a hobby Michael repaired watches and jewelry. In August 1986 he took early retirement giving valuable support to the career of Rebecca Orona, his loving wife, and to become an at-home dad to his two young children, Jose and Lisa Orona. Michael was a loving father to all his children. From his first marriage he leaves behind three daughters: Melinda Orona-Porter (Kenneth), Desiree Welch (Tim), and Kathleen Orona-Ike, widowed by Tom Ike, 2012. Michael's son, Michael Emmett Orona, Jr. preceded him in death, 1997. A celebration of Michael's life will be held March 28, between 3:00 - 7:00 pm, at the San Leandro Masonic Hall, 116 W. Orterry, Terry Wayne - Contra Costa  
Terry Wayne Orterry Aug. 13, 1963 - March 25, 2015 Resident of Reno, NV Terry passed away on Wednesday after a courageous battle with cancer. Preceded in death by infant daughter Caeyla Melisa Orterry. Born in Martinez CA. Terry leaves behind children, Megan, Matthew, Joshua & Barbie, granddaughter Bailey. At his time of passing Terry was surrounded by his loving family, who held his hands as he passed into eternal life. We said goodbye to a special man, now in heaven watching over his loved ones. Rest in peace until we are together again.
