Alvina Marie (Skip) Franz
June 8, 1917-Oct. 4, 2013
Resident of Dublin
Alvina Marie (Skip) Franz passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 after succumbing to complications from Alzheimer's disease. Her loving Christian spirit and gift of mercy touched many throughout her lifetime.
Alvina was born in Clark Mills, New York to Walter and Freda Brown and was the youngest of three sisters; Evelyn and Lillian being her older sisters.
After graduating from Clinton High School in 1935, she attended business school in Utica, New York, and began working at Kulow's Electric as a bookkeeper.
She met Richard B. (Dick) Franz at a Halloween party and they were married on June 21, 1941.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dick enlisted in the Army
Air Force. For the next 20 years of Dick's Air Force career, Skip and Dick moved around the country as Dick's assignment changed. They raised three boys, Douglas Brent Franz (Doug), Richard Walter Franz (Rik), and Gregory Alan Franz (Al), during this time. After retiring from the Air Force in Massachusetts, Dick and Skip moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with their family as Dick began working with the FAA out of Oakland International Airport as a Flight Inspector.
Skip and her family were active in the Hayward Covenant Church, then Hillside Covenant Church, Walnut Creek, where she taught Sunday school and participated in Bible studies. They later attended Valley Christian Church in Dublin and Rolling Hills Community Church in Danville.
Skip is survived by her sons: Doug, Rik, and Al Franz, and her grandson Erik Franz.
