Bernard D. "Bernie" Lynch Resident of Brentwood Passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2012 in an accident in Tuolumne County at the age of 32. Bernie was born on April 26, 1980 in Walnut Creek, CA to Carla Lynch and James Bernard Lynch. He attended Deer Valley High School in Antioch, CA and was a member of the Class of 1999. Bernie went on to receive his Associate of Arts Degree in Fire Science from Shasta Community College where he served as President of the #26 graduating class. During his eight years in Shasta County, Bernie worked as a Fireman for the Department of Forestry at various fire stations in the area. In 2010, he relocated to accept the position of Fire Captain at Dow Chemical Company in Pittsburg, CA where he worked until his death. Bernie was a certified Emergency Medical Technician and had completed course work in the Paramedic Program in Orville, CA. He proudly followed in the footsteps of his father, uncle and grandfather, Barney, and carried on the family firefighting tradition with a passion for helping others. Bernie loved the great outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, boater and outdoor adventure enthusiast. He lived part-time on in his beloved 40' boat, the "Salsa Lady". He lived his short life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to help a friend or a stranger in need. Bernie's life impacted so many people and his kindness touched so many hearts. Bernie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Barney and Ruth Lynch; grandfather, Duane Simmons; and aunt and uncle; Judy and Steve Lynch. Bernie is survived by his mother, Carla Lynch; father and stepmother, James and Linda Lynch; brother, Mathew Lynch; dear Grandmother Reta Simmons; aunts and uncles, Danny and Kathy Lynch; Steven, Sue, Jeff, and Brenda Simmons. He is also survived by his beloved cousins, Bridget, Jonathon, Ronnie, Briana and Laura Simmons; Steve and Danny Lynch; all of Contra Costa County. He is also survived by many loved second cousins and dear friends including, Wendy Spraggins of Redding, CA and Matthew Honsinger of Vallejo, CA Bernie will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, big heart, his deep love of life, family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 18th at 3:00pm at the Sportmen Yacht Club, 3301 Wilbur Avenue in Antioch, CA. Greg Quirke, Pastor at South Valley Church and Chaplin for the Gilroy Police and Fire Department, will be officiating.
