Berniece"Bunny" Stephens died peacefully in her sleep Saturday March 9, 2013. Berniece was the center of every party, making people laugh until the very end.
Berniece was born July 19, 1932 in Hartford, Arkansas to parents Ed and Dora Netherton. She was the youngest of 7 children. Her family moved to Antioch in 1938 and she graduated from Antioch High School in 1950. She then began working at Camp Stoneman as a telephone operator. She married the love of her life, Garland Stephens, in December of 1952.
Berniece enjoyed spending time and taking many trips with family and friends. She treasured a trip to Hawaii with her entire family, celebrating her and Garland's 45th wedding anniversary. Berniece and Garland also took multiple nationwide motorhome trips with the Parker family. She enjoyed quilting until her death, providing warmth to all of her loved ones. Berniece also enjoyed cooking and baking, providing her last family dinner the Sunday before her death.
Berniece is survived by her son, Ron Stephens; daughter-in-law, Leah; Daughter, Julia Parker; son-in-law; Mike; grandchildren, Jason, Adam, Matthew, Nicholas and Mariah; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Garland, grt. grandson Wyatt Parker, Cousin Ed Bowman and many lifelong friends and classmates.
Viewing will be Friday March 15, 6-8pm and memorial service, Saturday, March 16, 12pm, at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N. Main St, Walnut Creek, CA 94597, burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Concord. Condolences at oakparkhillschapel.com
