Clara Porter

Clara Porter Resident of Walnut Creek Clara, 96 passed away January 11, 2013. Clara was born to Roy C. and Pearl Van Horn on June 15, 1916 in Port Angeles, WA. Her family moved frequently with her father's job as a millwright and after attending 14 schools, she graduated from Chimacum High School, Chimacum WA and then from the University of Washington. In 1939, she married Frank R. Porter, whom she had known in high school and was her college sweetheart. Together, they lived and loved; celebrating their 73rd Anniversary on December 3, 2012. Clara taught school in Shelton, WA, Tacoma, WA, Vientiane, Laos, La Paz, Bolivia, and St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. She later worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Oakland, CA. She was passionate about families, books, her church, babies, unlimited hydroplanes, cats, unwrapped presents, and Amazon.com. Clara was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Deb Porter. She is survived by her husband, Frank, and her 4 children, Dick Porter (Kay) of Bellingham, WA, Larry Porter (Joan) of Diablo, CA, Bruce Porter of Bonney Lake, WA, and Kathie Simmons (Thomas) of Surprise, AZ. Other survivors include her four granddaughters, Lori Ramsey, Beverly Porter (Leland Anderson), Jenn Kester (Ken) and Sumer Moriarity (Damian Leon) along with 7 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family. A celebration of Clara's life will be held on January 23, 2013 at 1:30 PM at San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church 902 Danville Blvd., Alamo, CA 94507. The family suggests a donation to in lieu of flowers.
