David Dean
October 4, 1933 - February 21,2013
Resident of Livermore
Dave Dean passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 21, 2013 at the age of 79. He was born in Woodland, California and graduated from Woodland High School in 1951. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at the Alameda Naval Air Base.
After the navy, he went to FMC in San Jose as an apprentice machinist and completed his apprenticeship. Dave then went to Mare Island as a journeyman machinist and was recruited to go to a new research laboratory in Livermore that he referred to as "The Rad Lab." Dave was very involved with coaching his boys in the new Livermore Little League and helping it get started. Dave retired from the Rad Lab (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) after 33 years starting as a machinist and then as a machine tool acquisition purchaser and finally a Facilities Coordinator.
He enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and friends. He loved to take the grandkids camping and to Hawaii along with the entire family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Dean, sons Dave, Paul and Cary Dean, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on March 3, 2013 at the Elks Lodge in Livermore from 11:00 - 3:00.
