Monte passed away on Jan 2, 2014 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 64 yrs, Jean, kids Monte Jr, Darrell, Judy (Rob), Sue, Patty (Chris), grandkids Chrissy, Sandy, Danny, Nick, Sarah, Conner, brother, Bob, of Utah, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served as a Hospital corpsman in Guam, Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, and Concord Naval Magazine, Port Chicago, until 1949. He met Jean on a blind date at the Enean Theater, and they married Oct. 8, 1949 and started a family. Dad's love for Mom was evident to everyone who knew or saw them together. He retired after 35 years in the grocery business, and was very active with the Local 1179 Retired Retail Clerks, serving as VP, President, and Co-Travel Chairman with Jean. They loved going on trips and to the casino with their group. He volunteered with the Red Cross for 10 years, and received "Volunteer of the Year" for his work doing blood pressure screenings. He loved to garden (his tomatoes were the best), and barbecue (his chicken was legendary). He was a true family man who had many "sayings" we'll never forget. Monte will always be loved and missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
