Donald Alexander

Donald Dean Alexander Apr. 13, 1927 - Feb. 16, 2013 Resident of Walnut Creek Donald Alexander, long time resident of Contra Costa County, passed away on February 16, 2013 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek of complications following surgery. He was born in Alameda, CA on April 13, 1927, the sixth and youngest child of James Alexander and Lily Sheppard Alexander. Don graduated from Alameda High School, attended U.C. Berkeley and was a veteran of World War II. Don got his start in the commercial laundry equipment business working in his father's shop in Oakland. He later went on to selling, servicing and owning coin-operated laundries. Don was known as a businessman of integrity and will also be remembered for his generosity, wisdom and wonderful sense of humor. Don and his wife Mary moved to Rossmoor from Orinda in 1983. They enjoyed participating in several clubs and activities there. Don served as president of Mutual 48 and the Italian-American club. Don was the devoted husband of Mary Alexander for 62 years. He is also survived by daughters Janice (Thomas) and Julia (Charles) Brewer; grandchildren Justin (Lise) Brewer, Allison Brewer, Ryan Brewer and Nicole Stinson. He will also be greatly missed by extended family and many friends. Funeral services will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1600 Rossmoor Parkway, Walnut Creek, Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette.
