Don was born in Graton, CA. the eldest son of Ernest and Phyllis Ross. He grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1951. After a tour of duty in the Marine Corp, he attended Laney College and completed a program in Architectural Drafting. He married Mary Baxter, and they had two daughters, Diana and Audrey.
In 1958 he joined the Oakland Fire Department. During his 20 years in the department he drew house plans on his days off. After retirement, he opened an architectural office with partners.
He married Judy Fribley in 1977. Judy had 3 daughters, Jennifer, Jacqueline and Jessica. Don was a man of many talents. Don and Judy moved to Rossmoor in 2000.
Don is survived by his wife, Judy Ross, his brother, Larry Ross and wife Karen Ross, sister, Dixie Rose, his five daughters, and 5 grandchildren. Don was a long time friend of Bill W. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Hillside Covenant Church, 2060 Magnolia Way, Walnut Creek on March 22, 2014 at 11:00 am. Donations can be made to Hospice of the East Bay/Bruns House.
