Iris Francis Givens Resident of Livermore Iris Givens peacefully passed away at home on October 23rd, surrounded by her family and cats, after bravely battling breast cancer for over 30 years. Iris was born in Detroit, Michigan. In 1945 moved with her family to Oakland and subsequently to San Francisco where she worked at the U.S. Maritime Commission. It was there that she met the love of her life, Terry Givens. In 1948, they settled in Livermore and started their family. Iris began her career as a bookkeeper at the Livermore Veteran's Hospital. As the family expanded, Iris became a stay at home mom. Once the children had grown she then became the office manager for the family business, Givens Electric from which she retired in 1986. In 1989 she started volunteering at the Valley Care Auxiliary, where she formed closed relationships with the other volunteers and enjoyed what they considered weekly "therapy group". She enjoyed traveling the world, but was especially fond of her vacation home in Lake Tahoe. In her later years, she was fortunate to spend time with her grandchildren/great grandchildren and took the time to "Smell the Roses". She was preceded in death by Terry, her husband of 61 Years, her parents Thomas and Frances Prossima, her brother Thomas Prossima and sister Genevieve Asher. She is survived by her three children Cheryl (Jim) Perry, Terry (Jody) Givens and Karen Givens and five grandchildren Jim Perry, Christine (Mike) Foster, Justin (Carrie) Hansen, Tara and Matt Givens. She was blessed with five Great Grandchildren Caitlyn and Madison Foster, Austin, Brian and Caylee Hansen. In lieu of flowers Iris requested donations made to: Valley Humane Society or Hope Hospice two causes which she greatly valued. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 1:00pm at Callaghan's 3833 East Avenue, Livermore,
