Joseph passed away peacefully on the morning of August 2nd, 2013 in Livermore, California surrounded by loving family.
Joe was born in Pasay City in the Philippines to Anthony and Generosa Cravotto on September 7, 1924. His family moved across the ocean to San Francisco in 1938. He went to Mission High School and graduated in 1943. Upon graduation, he joined the Armed Forces and proudly served as a Sergeant in the 155th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II
. He was stationed in the South Pacific enduring significant combat during the Battle of Peleliu.
After the war, he attended UC Berkeley where he met his future wife, Norma, and developed a lifelong love of his Golden Bears. He quickly earned a degree in Civil Engineering and settled down to raise a family in Albany. For the majority of his professional life he was at Bechtel Corporation holding active licenses in both Civil and Structural Engineering.
In his spare time, he followed his father's passion for music and was an accomplished pianist with a particular love for classical music. During his retirement, he enjoyed playing piano, building "things" and spending time with his grandchildren.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Generosa; three brothers, Henry, Vince and Rudy; and daughter Gloria.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; brother, Bert; sisters, Rose, Lily and Jasmine; daughter, Beverly (Ric); sons, Tony (Loan) and Joe (Betts); grandchildren, Wendy, Stephanie, Jonathan, Amanda, Scott, Rachel, Sarah, Amanda and Matthew; great grandchildren, Tracy and Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23rd 11:00am at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 1145 Gilman St., Berkeley CA 94706.
