Joseph N. Calderazzo Sr.

Joe died peacefully on May 3, 2014, at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, CA, from diseases of the aged; his family was at his side.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived there until joining the U.S. Navy
on his seventeenth birthday. He was trained as a Navy Medic and served in both World War II
and the Korean War
. He met his future wife, Frances Flores, of Santa Ana, CA at a USO Dance in 1948. They were married April 22, 1951 while Joe was stationed at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital. Soon after being married, Joe boarded the USS Washburn AKA 108, and headed for Korea. After his service he was honorably discharged in 1954. Joe and Frances settled in Santa Ana, CA where they proceeded to raise their family. Joe worked as a production supervisor in the consumer products industry and aerospace industry. He was an avid baseball and football fan, and loved the active Southern California lifestyle. He spent time gardening and deep-sea fishing. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars
, St. Timothy Writing Class and San Ramon Senior Center Choir.
His greatest pleasure in life was his family. Joe was predeceased by Frances, his loving wife of 52 years. He leaves behind his daughter Carol (Brian) Anderson of Midland, TX, and his son Joseph Jr. (Christine) Calderazzo of Danville, CA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special thanks to his friend and companion in his later years, Mrs. Varena Stamm, of San Ramon.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville on Monday, May 12, at 10:00 am. Immediately after, there will be a private burial alongside his wife Frances at the National Cemetery in Gustine, CA.
