Resident of Walnut Creek
Junetta Dawson-Childers, 75, of Walnut Creek, CA, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on August 24, 2013, after a valiant battle with A.L.S. Born November 4, 1937 to Ruth and William Hixson, Junetta was raised with her 6 siblings on a farm outside of Scranton, Ark.
Junetta migrated with her family to CA, at the age of 14 after her father found work in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was there that she met her first husband, Edwin Dawson, in church. They married in 1953 and spent the next 51 years together, until Ed's death in 2004. They were blessed with 2 wonderful children, Vickie and Michael.
Junetta excelled in all endeavors in her life. She was a championship bowler and a championship golfer, garnering 6 golfing championships at Crow Canyon Country Club, 3 at Discovery Bay, and 2 at Rossmoor. It was in the same competitive spirit that she bought the Touch of Elegance Hair Salon in Pleasanton in 1971 and expanded over the next 21 years, continuing to work there until she retired in 2011 after a 48 year career.
Shortly before retirement, she met and married her 2nd husband, Dr. Lloyd Childers, a retired Marine officer. Junetta enjoyed a wonderful relationship with his lovely granddaughter, Natalie. Lloyd and Junetta golfed and traveled until the onset of her disease.
Junetta is survived by her devoted husband of 3 years, Lloyd Childers, her children, Vickie Beermann (Rich) and Michael Dawson (Julie), her brother, William Hixson (Jeanne), and five adoring Grandsons, Ryan Beermann, Justin Beermann, Chris Beermann, Greg Dawson (Erin) and Kevin Dawson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Junetta loved bright colors. It would be a Wonderful tribute to her to wear beautiful colors to celebrate her life.
