Mark C Chan was born in San Francisco and grew up in the Richmond District. He attended public schools and graduated from Stanford Paramedic School, working 12 years as a Paramedic in Oakland. He served in the Peace Corp from 1995 to 1997 in Dominica. Mark lost his vision in 2004. He worked for Caltrans as a Dispatcher. He belonged to Connecting Through Dance and enjoyed dancing, and he tuned and collected pianos. Mark died from complications of diabetes and cardiac arrhythmia. He is survived by his father Phil stepmother Marilyn; brother Bruce (Joyce); sister Aleta (Reid Augustin); sister Jackie (Alan Huey); sister Kathleen; and step-sister Julie Nottingham.
A memorial service will be held February 9 at 12 noon at the Ed Roberts Campus, 3075 Adeline, Berkeley, CA (at the Ashby BART Station). Memorial donations may be made to LightHouse for the Blind, 214 Van Ness Ave, SF, CA 94102.
