Michael William Russell June 26, 1955 - July 26 2013 Richmond Native Michael passed away suddenly at his home in Richmond on July 26. A native of Richmond Michael attended local schools and was a graduate of Salesian High School class of 1973. Preceded in death by his parents Mary and William "Russ" Russell and his brother Patrick. Survived by his sisters Kathleen Smallfield and Ann McCain, and nieces Katie McCain and Colleen Smallfield. A Boilermaker for 39 years, Michael began his career at Wigman and Rose in Richmond before joining the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers local 549. Before his retirement on July 1st 2013 Michael worked as Job Foreman and Union Shop Steward. A member of the Richmond Elks Lodge
#1251, Pacific Locomotive Association, Golden Gate Railroad Museum, E. Clampus Vitus Joaquin Murrieta Chapter #13, crew member of the USS Mazapeta YTM 181 Tugboat. He was a mentor to many apprentice boilermakers and locomotive hobbyists. Michael was instrumental in the restoration of steam locomotive engine #2467 which is currently on display at the Sacramento Train Museum. An avid duck hunter and fisherman he enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting in Northern California and Canada. Visitation Friday August 2, 2013 from 6pm to 9pm at Wilson and Kratzer Mortuary, 24th and Barrett Ave. Richmond. Service on Saturday August 3rd at 12noon at Wilson and Kratzer, with a reception to follow at the Elks Club Lodge 3931 San Pablo Dam Rd. El Sobrante.
