Richard Murhl

Richard Murhl Werner Resident of Pleasant Hill, Ca Richard passed away peacefully on October 2, 2013, in his home with his children. He was 88 years of age. Richard was born to John and Lucy Werner (Stern) on December 25, 1924 on the family farm south of Bowdon, North Dakota. He was the fifth of seven children. He attended grade school and went on to graduate from Sykeston High School. Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943, where he was decorated with the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for his combat in the Philippines. He was discharged in 1946 and moved to Stockton, CA. where he met Kathleen Francis McGrath. they married in 1948, and Richard received his Journeyman Certification in Auto Body Repair in 1950. In 1951 they bought a home and moved to Pleasant Hill, CA and raised their 3 children, Tim, Shelly and John. Richard worked at Lehmers Oldsmobile in Concord for 30 years, and for his union the IAM Local 1173 for many years. In 1981 his wife Kay passed away. He became co-owner of Plaza Auto Body, Lafayette, retiring in 1990. Richard loved to fish. He was a fisherman at heart. He tied his own flies and was happiest when fishing with his buddies or his family in Northern CA. Richard is survived by his devoted children, Timothy Werner, Shelly Videau (Werner), John Werner all of Pleasant Hill, CA Sisters; Florence Fruhwirth (Werner) of Bowdon, N. Dakota, Margaret Stepp (Werner), Mountain Ranch, CA. and 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Jenna, Coree, Raymond and Zachary. 10 Great grandchildren and many other family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay, his parents John and Lucy Werner, his brother Harry Werner, Stockton, CA his sister Leola Johnson (Werner), Bowdon N. Dakota, Rosella Taylor (Werner) Bowdon, N. Dakota, and Lavonne, Chassereau (Werner), Oakland, CA. Richard was a genuinely sweet and humble man. He was loved by many and will be missed forever.
