Richard Neil Cooledge May 16, 1927 - Dec. 6, 2012 Resident of Richard Neil Cooledge passed away in the early morning hours of December 6, 2012, at his family home in El Sobrante. He was 85 years old. Richard is survived by Bernice, his loving wife of 58 years, his brother, William Craig Cooledge and wife, Melba of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, his four sons-Dana of San Francisco; twins, Timothy and wife, Johnna of American Canyon, and Andrew and wife, Laura of Antioch-Napa; and John and wife, Carol of Napa. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ryan and Craig Cooledge of American Canyon; Lyndsay and Mitchell Cooledge of Napa; and step-grandson Adam Sanchez of Napa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dick, as he's also known, was born in Berkeley, CA on May 16, 1927 to Victor and Loretta Cooledge of Albany. He graduated from Albany High in June 1945 and immediately entered the Navy at San Diego, CA. He served on several vessels in the Asiatic Pacific and was honorably discharged in August 1946. Richard met Bernice Kame at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Berkeley and they were married there on April 3, 1954. After receiving an A.A. degree and a certificate in Traffic and Transportation at San Francisco City College, he was employed by Pacific Intermountain Express for 28 years. Richard served his community in many ways. As an area representative with the El Sobrante Boys Club, he coached baseball while his sons were in elementary school. Richard was an active and faithful member of the El Sobrante United Methodist Church. He was also a loyal member of Sons in Retirement, Branch No. 73. In later years, he enjoyed playing his accordion and concertina music for retirement home seniors. Richard's other interests included music, cooking, ballroom dancing and traveling. Through the years he enjoyed family outings and vacations with Bernice's sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and James Neeley of Visalia, CA. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at El Sobrante United Methodist Church at 670 Appian Way on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. The family requests donations be made to the El Sobrante United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or to a memorial of choice, in memory of Richard Cooledge.
