Rose Rhoads

Rose Rhoads Aug. 4, 1926 - Jan. 17, 2013 Resident of Antioch Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rose Elizabeth Rhoads, 86, was born to Jim and Ollie Buchanan in Washita County, OK. She graduated from Alfalfa High School, Oklahoma in 1945 and played softball and basketball while also helping on the family farm. Rose traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma and played one season with the Douglas Flyers Semi Pro All Girls Softball Team and was named MVP of the team during World War II in 1945. In 1946, she traveled to California and met her husband-to be, Ralph, who preceeded her in death in 2005. They married in 1947 and were blessed with 58 years of marriage. Rose is survived by two sons, Jim (Lupe), and Robert (Cheryl), of Antioch. Rose had 11 grandchildren: Lisa, Regina, Jennifer, James, Sara, John, Josh, Nick, Christina, Rosie, and Jamie Jo and 34 great-grandchildren. She had five siblings who preceded her in death; Sam, Everett, Bill, Catherine, and Mae, all of Oklahoma; and three sisters: Peggy and Mary of Mountain View, Oklahoma, and Helen Turney, of Martinez. Rose was a homemaker while husband Ralph worked many years until he retired as a cement mason. Rose loved to crochet, spend time with family, travel with her sister Helen and attend Calvary Chapel Crossroads. Funeral services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home, 1310 A Street, in Antioch on Wed. Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Oakview Memorial Cemetary in Antioch.
