Stephen was born in Denver, Co. to Cyrus and Genevieve Patterson. He graduated from San Diego High where he met his future wife Gloria. He attended San Diego State. He served during the Korean War
and was awarded a Bronze Star
. He returned to Berkeley to marry Gloria, and to finish his education. He graduated from Cal and entered Boalt Law, but discovered his real calling as a stockbroker. He worked as a broker for 43 years, retiring as a Morgan Stanley vice president. He was an early member of the East Bay St. Club, the Athenian Nile Club and proud Cal Alum. He enjoyed travel on three continents, lunching with colleagues, entertaining, and any excuse for get-togethers with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, daughters Susan and Lisa, son-in-law Guillermo Castilla, grandchildren Alexander and Samantha, first cousins Anne Anderson, Kathleen Stevens, Judy Gray, brother-in-law Bob Brown, nieces Kelly Galpin, Vanessa McVay, Diana McVay, Catherine Brown (Jennifer), Rebecca Brown, nephew Robert McVay (Kateri), and many younger cousins.
An informal celebration of his life will be held at Chateau III, 175 Cleaveland Road, Pleasant Hill, CA from 1-3 PM, on Friday November 23rd.
