Resident of Martinez
A former law clerk at the McNamara Law Firm & former assistant to the Harbor Master at the Martinez Marina, & former childcare worker for the City of Concord; she was studying to become a paralegal & longed to become an attorney. But her true passion was her new baby girl & her music. She was an amazing mother, writer, musician & poet, possessing a loving heart & flamboyant spirit. Her sense of humor, kindness & fierce devotion to her loved ones, will be greatly missed. She is predeceased by her grandfather, former Battalion Chief, James Riley, killed during the Oakland Fire in 1991, & grandmother, Marilyn Lawnicki of Louisiana, in 1988. She is survived by her 4 month old daughter, Persephone Walsh, soul mate John Walsh, mother Catherine Riley, father Rick Strand, beloved brother Andrew Strand, grandmother Christine Riley, & a host of uncles, aunts, cousins & friends. Services on Sat. May 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 1601 Mary Dr, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the, Kaitlyn B. Strand Memorial Fund, for her daughter, Persephone. Donations can be mailed to Wells Fargo Bank, 1978 Contra Costa Blvd., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523

Baby girl, I love you so much and am sad I wasn't more a part of your life. Recently, our family has been trying to come together and you were there loving every minute all of us were together and the love you felt from your father's side of the family as well as your Mom's. Such as tragedy, to such a fine and beautiful soul. You left your family the most precious gift anyone could have and she is a replica of her mommy. I love you Kaitlyn forever!! Your Auntie Kathy

My baby girl I have no idea how I am going to survive this horrific tragic loss of you leaving me of leaving all of us... I am forever going to cling to the love we shared and the beautiful gift of the daughter you leave behind. I love you more than any words can ever convey. You were my daughter my sister and my very best friend. I will always hate myself for not being there when you needed me. I should have listened to my momdar and raced over when I suspected you needed me.
A vision of light in a world of darkness
Melodic sweet tones from the deep
The music she left must forever remind us
For she passed from this life in her sleep.
Her spirit now soars in the heights of the heavens
Now free from her life full with pain

Hey kaitlyn, recently me, you and john hung out alot more than we ever did, and i really appreciated the person you were, you always treated me with the utmost respect, and were very caring, and if you didnt like something i said or did, you didnt hesitate to let me know, i love that about you, i was so proud of you and john, i even used to tell people how proud i was, you were an awesome mom, and you truly from the bottom of your heart loved john and persephone, im so happy that i got to meet you, you were loved by so many and always will be, stay awesome kaitlyn, ill see you one day, and dont worry Persephone your lil angel is gonna be well taken care of by especially john, but friends and family too. See ya when i see ya. P.S. your song fallen angel with matt gives me goosebumps, i love it. Bye!

Kaitlyn sweetheart, I will always try to understand how this could happen to you, and I will always try to be strong and find ways to see how this was perhaps somehow "your time" or "God's plan" but there will always be a part of me that just wants to go back in time and change this tragic event. The only thing that consoles me is knowing that you will be the first person I see when I too pass someday. You left with me a miraculous gift in our beautiful daughter Persephone and it is my life's mission to see that she grows up with the strength of a dragon and a phoenix. You will never be replaced and you left an illustrious standard for your daughter to live up to and look up to. I pray that you are in Heaven now looking down at how much you meant to so many people, and I hope that you are happy and not sad. You can now release what's left of any pain that you ever had and enjoy the afterlife knowing that with strength and faith we will celebrate your life forever, and in the end of time we will be together again.
