(Ret.) passed away on Friday March 1, 2013 at the age of 70 after a battle with cancer. Sgt. Campbell was a character. He entertained all who knew him with his wonderful stories, movie trivia, and facts on a variety of topics. Brian was born in Los Angeles, CA to William and Paula Campbell. In 1956 the family moved to San Jose, Ca where Brian attended Campbell High School and was in the first graduating class, 1960, at the new Del Mar High School. While at Del Mar, Brian was active in the California Cadet Corps and became the commanding officer of the Del Mar unit. He was also active in the Civil Air Patrol and, because of his outstanding qualifications, was selected to represent the California region in the International Cadet Exchange Program in Norway. After briefly working at Lockheed, Brian began a long career in law enforcement starting in Santa Cruz, CA. From there the Contra Costa Sheriffs Office hired him. As a deputy Brian worked in a variety of capacities, including the first K9 Unit (K9 Officer Blitz) in Contra Costa, a coroner's investigator, marine patrol, tech services and transportation, U.S. Navel Weapons Station, civil and in the jail. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in 1995. After his retirement in 1999 B.C. went back to work at the CCSO part time as a Disposition Investigator in Property and Evidence for the next 13 years. Brian also enjoyed many hobbies, from old movies (particularly with John Wayne), to wood working to radio broadcasting to collecting clocks. He handled many of the repairs and refurbishing of Marine Patrol boats while with that department of the CCSO. He created the CCSO 2000 calendar. He also helped with changes to the DSA hall in Martinez. He was a member of the Mount Diablo Radio Club and spoke with the crew of the last space shuttle on its last mission from his radio. He had a keen interest and love of Chelsea Clocks (America's last clock maker) as well as Segway's. Brian was a member of the 100 Club, Sheriffs Posse, and Martinez Sportsman Club. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan; his brothers Larry (Marilyn) of San Jose, Greg (Maryjane) of Washington, daughters Kelli Williams (Michael) of Auburn, Colleen Crowe (Douglas) of Rocklin, Jennifer Lauten (Greg) of Chico, and grandchildren, McKenna Crowe, Jacob Williams and Campbell Crowe. Many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who enjoyed his sense of humor, stories, love of movies, clocks and radio will miss him. "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway."-John Wayne. Thanks for saddling up, B.C. Family and Friends are invited to services for Sgt.
