Robert L. Vickers

Robert L. Vickers U.S. Air Force Col., Retired Resident of Concord Colonel Robert L. Vickers, 92, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Wednesday night, March 30, 2011. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends. Colonel Vickers, commonly known as Lehman to family and friends and Bob to many colleagues, experienced a distinguished career of service to the people of this Great Nation. A graduate of Law from Tulane University, his service included 28 years of active duty with the United States Air Force under the Judge Advocate General as an attorney and judge. Once retired, he began private practice in Concord, then Sacramento, when asked to serve at the pleasure of Governor Ronald Reagan as the Director of Emergency Services. He went on to serve at the pleasure of President Ronald Reagan as the Director of FEMA Region 9. Lehman also was a longstanding member of Calvary Temple Church, Concord, where he served repeated terms as a Senior Board Member. Colonel Vickers loved his career, but he loved nothing more than his Lord and his wife of 72 years. He embodied passion for them both as well the people that surrounded them in relationship. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dottie) Hartsell Vickers; granddaughter Jill Lopez, her husband Richard; great-grandchildren Joshua and Jessica and a brother Tarrant (Junior). He is predeceased by daughter Joyce Caldwell, and brother George Henry Vickers. Visitations will be Monday, April 4, 2011 from 4-8pm at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11am at Calvary Temple Church, 4725 Evora Rd., Concord.
